Leo Wolff - July 28, 1912 - May 22, 2009

Leo Wolff, age 96, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Leo Theodore Wolff was born on July 28, 1912 in Monterey, Nebraska, the son of Edward and Margaret (Lummel) Wolff. He attended school in Aloys and West Point, Nebraska, graduating from The Society for the Divine Word High School in Techny, Illinois.

On September 10, 1935, Leo was united in marriage to Marcella Haselhoff at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Iowa. To this union, four children were born: Joseph Edward, Mary Agnes, Edward Leo and William George. On August 21, 1944, Leo married Elizabeth “Betty” Tunink at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller, Iowa. This family was further blessed by four more children: Judith Kathryn, Norman William, Linda Ann and Jean Marie.

Leo was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. He was an active and faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake for 57 years.

Leo enjoyed woodworking and playing cards. With his hands, he could do anything and fix anything and he leaves his family and friends surrounded by his loving handiwork. More than anything, Leo cherished spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Joe Wolff and his wife, Nancy of Newell, Iowa; Mary Niehaus of Fonda, Iowa; Ed Wolff of Kent, Washington; Bill Wolff and his wife, Lu of Pittsburg, Kansas; Judy Rewerts and her husband, George of Defiance, Iowa; Norm Wolff and his wife, Pam of Newell; Linda Tilton and her husband, Ron of Storm Lake; Jean Currie and her husband, Jeff of Storm Lake; two sisters: Matilda Drey of Early, Iowa and Mary Ernesti of Dodge, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Preceding Leo in death are his parents; wife, Marcella; wife Betty; sisters: Sr. Veronica Wolff and Helen Ortmeier; son-in-law, Don Niehaus; grandchildren: Jeff Niehaus and Rosalie Niehaus Schettler.

Visitation will be 3:30-8:00 p.m., Monday, May 25, 2009 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 4-8:00 p.m. There will be a Legion of Mary rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
