George Foell - May 11, 1922 - May 28, 2009

George Foell, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

George Vernon Foell was born on May 11, 1922 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Vernon and Ruby (Angier) Foell. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake where he remained a lifelong member.

George attended elementary and grade school in Hayes Township, graduating from Hayes High School in 1940. Following his graduation, he continued his education at Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. In 1945, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in World War II.

On June 20, 1948, George and Rosemary (Saunders) were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. This union was blessed with four children: Thomas Edward, William Robert, Patricia Ann and Charles Alan.

George was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Oddfellows, Farm Bureau and served as the president on the Schaller School Board. He loved playing bridge with the Schaller Men’s Bridge Club. One of his proudest accomplishments was his gardening. George enjoyed fishing and took great pleasure in history. His passion was reading, watching sporting events and following the Chicago Cubs.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Doris Rausch of Paullina, Iowa; his children: Bill (Laura) Foell of Schaller, Iowa; Pat (Roger) Stevens of Dayton, Iowa; Chuck (Martina) Foell of Omaha, Nebraska, Iowa; his grandchildren: Thomas, Mary, and Travis Foell; Colette (Kevin) Collen; Lee (Heather) Stevens; Nathan (Sara) Stevens; Leah and Jack Foell; seven great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; his aunt, Ruth Liddy of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Helen Foell of Storm Lake and Norma (Jerry) McDaniel of Natchez, Mississippi; extended family and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rosemary; his son Thomas; his brother Dick; and his brother-in-law Rodney Rausch.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will take place from 4-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, with the family present during that time.
