Mildred Carlson - Oct. 04, 1911 - July 27, 2009

Newell, Iowa
Mildred Carlson, age 97, of Newell, Iowa, died on July 27, 2009 at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

Mildred Iverson was born on October 4, 1911, the daughter of Alfred and May (Peterson) Iverson in Alta, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian faith at Elk Baptist Church in rural Alta. She grew up on a farm north of Alta known as the Garberson place. Mildred attended Fairview school in Alta.

On August 14, 1931, Mildred was united in marriage to Richard Carlson in Alta. This couple was blessed with two children, Marlene and Gaylen. After moving to Newell in 1940, Richard and Mildred bought a blacksmith, welding and machine shop and together raised their two children.

Mildred was a member of the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa, where she served on the Nain Lutheran Ladies Aid. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and belonged to the Newell Married Meeters and Newell Birthday Club.

Mildred loved being around people. She had a passion for visiting with friends and family on the telephone. She enjoyed traveling when she was still able to do so. Mildred had a very sharp mind and memory and will be missed by many.

Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Marlene Mildred (John) Massop of Storm Lake and Gaylen Richard Carlson (Mary Jane Wright) of Placentia—Tustin, California; her grandchildren: Douglas (Kathleen) Massop of Des Moines, Iowa; Brenda (Mark) Schmidt of Missoula, Montana; Rachael (Wayne) Kies of Monticello, Indiana; Karen (John) Keenan of Storm Lake, Iowa; Jennifer (Randy) Bath of Sacramento, California; Hilary (Ron) Maddox of Placentia, Califonia; 18 great grandchildren; her sister-in-laws: Alva Carlson – Ehlers of Storm Lake; Dorothy Pearce of Kentucky and Esther Ganns of Oxnard, California; her brother-in-law, Ernest Carlson of Carson, Washington and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Carlson, her parents; her sisters Lois (Frank) Movall; Margaret (John) Mohr and her brother Everett (Elizabeth) Iverson.

Interment: August 01, 2009 at Newell Cemetery in Newell, Iowa
