Mildred Fredricks, age 100, of Marathon, died Sept. 24, 2009 at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Marathon is in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred Jeanette Johnson, the daughter of Ola and Anna (Gilbert) Johnson, was born in Sioux City, on April 9, 1909. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Manson. In 1912, Mildred moved with her parents to Albert City where she was confirmed at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She lived her youth in the Albert City area and graduated from Albert City High School in 1927. Following graduation, Mildred worked as a telephone operator in Albert City.

On June 9, 1928, Mildred was united in marriage to Emil Fredricks in Jackson, Minn., and to this union three children were born: Annette, Verlin and Clair. Emil and Mildred farmed in the Albert City area until 1941 when they purchased their farm near Marathon. Following Emil's death, Mildred moved into an apartment in Marathon and resided there until moving to St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer in 2002.

Mildred was a long time member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon. She cherished the times she could spend with her family. She enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona and traveling. Mildred loved having fellowship with her many friends, playing cards and working with flowers.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law: Annette and Edgar Fairchild of Spirit Lake, her son, Clair Fredricks of Tucson, Ariz.; her daughter-in-law, Delores Fredricks of Spirit Lake; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil; her son, Verlin; her daughter-in-law, Carol Fredricks; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
