Russell H. Bayse, age 99, of Leesburg, Fla. was born Aug. 11, 1910 in Newton, Ill., the son of Luther and Alice (McKinzie) Bayse. Russell entered the Merchant Marines at age 17 and served with the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. He married Ola May Whitney and they owned and operated a General Farm Store, Hatchery, Feed Store and Implement Store in Newell. In 1954 he and a partner created Cramer and Bayse Construction Co. and built many bridges in the state of Iowa.

They retired in 1962 and moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., then moved to Hawthorne at Leesburg in 1975. Russell enjoyed a successful career and enjoyed traveling the world with the love of his life, Ola May, his wife of 70 years who passed away the day before his birthday in 2001.

Survivors include his sons, Paul Bayse of McAllen, TX; Bond (Myrtle) Bayse of Leesburg, Fla.; his daughter, Helen (Tony) Bridges of Eustis; daughter-in-law, Mieko Bayse of Jacksonville, Fla.; 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Krouth of Omaha, Neb. and Marjorie Niles of Phoenix, Ariz.; He is preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, Harold, Howard and Clyde.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Pastors Tom Keisler and Tom Piepers officiating. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Michael Bridges, Thomas Bridges, Stephen Bridges, Timothy Bayse, James Bayse, and Timothy Anderson. Graveside Military Honors will be provided by Hawthorne VFW Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Rd. Tavares, FL 32778. Condolences may be left at www.beyersfuneralhome.com . Beyers Funeral Home & Crematory, Leesburg was entrusted with the arrangements.
