Marvin E. Ploeger, age 77, of Storm Lake, died Dec. 2, 2009 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Reformed United Church of Christ Cemetery of rural Schaller. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Marvin Eugene Ploeger was the son of Herman and Leota (King) Ploeger. He was born in Storm Lake, on July 27, 1932. Marvin lived his youth in the Schaller area and he was a graduate of the Hayes Consolidated School. Marvin served his country in the United States Army from Jan. 14, 1953, until his honorable discharge on Jan. 13, 1955. While in the Army, he served at Fort Riley, Kan. and Fort Carson, Colo. as a supply sergeant.

Marvin was united in marriage to Betty Bork at St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, on May 24, 1953, and this couple has been blessed with four children: Wanda, Cheryl, David and Vicki. After his military discharge, Marvin and Betty lived for 10 years south of Storm Lake and then moved east of Storm Lake where they have resided for the past 44 years. Marvin worked for the government for 10 years and then became an area foreman for Dekalb Seeds for 30 years. H se was a faithful member of the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ of rural Schaller where he has served as a Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, usher and as church treasurer and secretary. More recently, Marvin and Betty were members of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Marvin had many special interests which included camping, fishing, riding horses, woodworking and spending time with his dogs.

Marvin's life and memories are cherished by his family which include: his wife, Betty of Storm Lake; his children: Wanda and Jack Konz of Johnston; Cheryl and Steve Olmstead of Mesa, Ariz.; David and Judy Ploeger of Storm Lake; Vicki and Joseph Kingkade of Omaha, Neb.; his grandchildren: Nicholas and Andrea Konz; Andrea and Ben Tilus; Amy Konz; Justin and Heather Olmstead; Phillip Olmstead; Tony and Robyn Ploeger; Peggy Ploeger; Ryan and Karin Kingkade; Ashley and Alex Slaughter; 8 great grandchildren; his mother, Leota Ploeger of Storm Lake; his brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Diane Ploeger of Glidden; two sisters and their husbands, Phyllis and Ed Lenz of Early, and Norma and Wally Boysen of Omaha, Neb.; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman; his sister-in-law, Karen Ploeger.
