George D. Koth, age 81, of Marcus, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 29, 2009 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus with the Rev. James L. Gruber officiating. Interment will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery, Storm Lake. Visitation will be at the Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus, from 2 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, with the family present from 5 until 7:30 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m. The visitation will continue at the Peace Lutheran Church on Friday, one hour prior to George's service.

George Donald Koth was born Sept. 7, 1928 in Hanover, to Albert and Della (Grienke) Koth. He attended school in Hanover.

On May 16, 1954, George was united in marriage to Glenice A. Wilson at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. They became the busy parents of five children.

George was fascinated with the profession of newspaper media. Throughout his career, he was employed at newspaper offices in Storm Lake and Denver, Colo., and Bolstein Printing in Sioux City before purchasing the "Marcus News" in Marcus, in 1971. George was the owner, editor and publisher of the newspaper. For numerous years and countless hours, he not only provided the town with their weekly news, but also designed the ads and printed the yearly fair book. George sold his business and retired in 1996.

Some of George's leisure activities and hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, tending to his yard, frequenting garage sales, and visiting with friends over a good cup of coffee. George and Glenice enjoyed traveling, dancing, entertaining in their home, and spending time at their cabin in Spirit Lake. In his earlier years, George found joy in following his children's activities.

George was a former member of the Lion's Club and the Marcus Country Club.

George is survived by his wife, Glenice Koth of Marcus; his daughter, Angie (Rick) Konradi of Perry; his sons, Tom (Julie) Koth of Camdenton, Mo., Dan Koth of Dallas, TX, and David Koth of Marion; his sister, Betty (Blaine) Halling of Kansas City, Mo., and his brother, Kenneth (Marcy) Koth of Storm Lake. George will also be cherished by his nine grandchildren, Alicia, Ashlie, Chris, Tony, Nick, Emily, Missy, Frederick and Albert; his great-grandson, Skylar, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding George in death is his daughter, Terri (Koth) Carver; his parents, Albert and Della Koth; four sisters, Leona Delbridge, Dora Tillman and two infant sisters, and his brother, Albert Koth.
