Mrs. Charles Rees

Sarah Elizabeth Partridge Reese, daughter of Walter and Harriet Partridge was born near Chebanse, Ill. On July 29, 1874 and passed away after a lingering illness at the Alta Memorial Hospital on September 5, at 4:40 P.m.

In 1881 the family moved to a farm southwest of Alta where Mrs. Rees grew to womanhood. Mrs. Rees being the seventh of ten children in the family.

At an early age she gave her life to Christ and since 1900 has been a faithful and loyal member of the Alta Methodist church.

On October 13, 1897 she was united in marriage with Charles Wesley Rees and to this union seven children were born. Following their marriage they settled on a farm near Storm Lake; one year later they moved to a farm west of Marathon. In 1900 they moved to an acreage near Alta where they resided until the fall of 1942.

After the passing of her husband on September 28, 1942, Mrs. Rees moved to Alta where she lived since, when she was not visiting with her children.

Mrs. Reese was a member of the Home and Foreign Missionary Societies, later the Woman's Society of Christian Service which she served willingly as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the W.C.T.U. for many years.

Mrs. Rees is survived by six children, Nettie, Mrs. James Rukes, Greenville; Mrs. Laura Shoemaker, Minneapolis, Minn.; Florence, Mrs. Alfred Grienke, Alta; Olive, Mrs. Elgin Batho, Pittsfield, Mass.; Archie Rees, Greenville; Marvin Rees, Waterloo. One son, Lester, preceded her in death on June 22, 1930. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ida Tutt and Mrs. Kate Sassman, of Marathon; two brothers, Hugh Partridge of Gilbertsville, Frank Partridge of Marathon; 20 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service were held from the Wilkinson Funeral Home Tuesday, September 9 at 1:30 p.m. and from the Alta Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the pastor Rev. Newton M. Coughenour, officiating.

Mr. Murray Jimmerson and Gerald Christensen sang two duets, "In the Shadow of the Cross" and "Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us".� Mrs. Gideon Soderquist sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus".� Mrs. Newton M. Coughenour was the accompanist.

Interment was made in Woodlawn Cemetery.
