Anna Marie Catt, 92 years old, of Independence, IA, died Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester, IA.

Anna Marie was born October 12, 1932, in Osage, IA, the daughter of Victor William Tabbert and Hazel Mae (Smalley) Tabbert. She attended country school near Osage and graduated from Osage High School with the class of 1950. She continued her education at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA, graduating in 1954 with a degree in music education.

On June 12, 1955, she was united in marriage to Charles McCormick Catt at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. She was the K – 12th grade music teacher at Lamont, IA, before becoming a substitute teacher in the Independence Community School District.

Anna Marie was a farm wife and worked side by side with Charles on the family farm, just outside of Independence. She raised chickens, loved to garden, and enjoyed flowers of all types. Her greatest joy in life was being a mom. She always looked forward to having everyone home, together; she enjoyed researching family history; and up until a few years ago, she loved to mow the lawn on her John Deere zero turn mower. Anna Marie was a founding member of the group, Buchanan Housing Inc., a local organization that helps provide housing for people with mental disabilities. She also served on the Goodwill Industries of NE Iowa board. She was a member of the Eastern Star, White Shrine, and the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.

Anna Marie is survived by one daughter, Diane Catt of Seattle, WA; two sons, Keith Catt and Neal Catt, both of Independence, IA; two brothers, Delbert Tabbert of Ft. Dodge, Gene (Carol) Tabbert of Osage; one sister – in – law, Marlene (Elmer) Hettinger of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; one daughter, Karen Catt; one sister – in – law, Dorothy Tabbert; and Charles’ brother and sisters, Elizabeth (Mel) Grey, Claude (Jesse) Catt, Margaret (Don) Lohman, Oma Jean (JR) McBride.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. - Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at White Funeral Home, Independence, IA, with burial in the Wilson Cemetery in Independence.

Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at White Funeral Home, Independence, and will continue an hour before services, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
