Richard Griffin Falck, 52, of Oelwein, Iowa, formerly of Stanley, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at his home after a courageous battle with illness.

He was born on March 12, 1971, in Waterloo, the son of Gerald and Inabel (Griffin) Falck. Richard grew up on a farm east of Stanley and was a 1990 graduate of the Antes Center in West Union.

Richard was very involved in Special Olympics. He enjoyed track events, bowling, basketball, and was privileged to compete in roller skating at the National Special Olympics in Minneapolis. Richard worked at Goodwill in Oelwein and Independence for many years. Another big part of his life was his church and bowling league. He formed lifelong friendships through these activities. Even though Richard was faced with multiple medical issues, he faced them with bravery and dignity. He was respectful and always mindful of rules. Richard was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and showed his support by wearing Hawkeye gear.

Family was at the center of Richard’s world. He held a special place in his heart for his nieces, nephews, and cousins, creating enduring bonds that brought immeasurable happiness. His love extended to his caregivers and friends at Goodwill, where he formed lasting connections that enriched his life and theirs.

Survivors include his brother, Steve Falck of Des Moines; his sister, Jodi (Brian) Muller of Manchester; brother-in-law, Dan Freeman of Independence; nieces and nephews, Morgan (Colin) Thorson, Zach (Breanna Recker) Muller, Kaylee Muller, and Jacob Freeman; great-nephews, Clay and Beau Thorson, with one on the way; several aunts and an uncle; many cousins; a special friend and caregiver, Lila Rohrick; and his special feline companion, Smokey.
