SEATTLE – Royal T. Billing, 89, formerly of Independence, died Feb. 1, 2015 in Seattle, Wash.

He was born Aug. 1, 1925 to William Richard and Susan Gertrude Billing in Independence, Iowa, along with his twin brother Robert. They were the first twins born in the new Independence Hospital.

Royal graduated from Independence High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943. He served 20 years in the Marines and retired as a gunnery sergeant. He then worked 20 years in security for General Motors in Detroit, Mich.

Royal was preceded in death by his three sisters, Wilma, Alice and Mary, a brother Bill and his parents. He is survived by his twin brother Robert and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Tuesday morning, Feb. 10, at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Wash.

Hoffner, Fisher & Harvey Funeral Home handled arrangements.
