Bernard Charles Deke was born in Byron Twp, Buchanan Co, IA, the son of Bernerd Werner Dake and Hattie Orissa Deke.

Bernard C. Deke, 61 of rural Independence, died Tuesday in Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Services 10:30 Friday, Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial: Floral Hills Gardens, Hazelton,IA.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, two daughters, Porcia Grover of Rowley and Polly Fank of Independence, his mother Hattie of Independence, three sisters, Eleanor Bender of San Jose, CA and Dorothy Wilkinson and Sharon Naylor both of Independence and a brother, Terry of Waterloo.

Bernard served in the U.S. Army during the the Korean War.
