Mirriam B. “Midge” Arnold, 74, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, March 4, 2022, at Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein with Rev. Duane Olsen officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.

Memorials may be directed in her name to Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and masks are suggested at the visitation and service.

Mirriam (Midge) Burnice Winsell was born at home, February 15, 1948, near Selma, Iowa the daughter of Paul and Minnie (Goehring) Winsell. She graduated from Ellis Country School in 1962 and then graduated from Van Buren Community High School in 1966. Midge attended The University School of Cosmetology in Iowa City and graduated in 1967. On August 19, 1967, she was united in marriage to James D. Arnold. The couple moved to Ames where she worked for Finesse beauty shops for three years, until her husband graduated. They moved to Lennox, South Dakota where she worked for a beauty shop there and in December they moved to Ainsworth, Iowa. She worked at the Ainsworth Four Corners restaurant and then worked in a home beauty shop until moving to Oelwein in 1975. Midge worked at a beauty shop in Oelwein for a year or so and then at the Country Cottage until she became involved in the operation of the Ice Cream Junction in 1987.

Midge loved to work with kids and taught Sunday school and was a Cub Scout den mother as well as being involved in the Lioness Club and United Methodist Women at Grace United Methodist Church, serving on various boards.

Midge and Jim were involved in operating the Ice Cream Junction for 25 years, employing a large number of high school students of whom they came to cherish very much. Midge loved to visit with customers and especially enjoyed all the kids who worked for her over the years.

Midge is survived by her husband of 54 years: Jim Arnold of Oelwein; 2 sons: G Robert (Heather) Arnold of Atkins and Michael (Dawn) Arnold of Van Horne; 3 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Colby and Elizabeth; brother William (Deb) Winsell of Ridgeway; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Paul and Minnie Winsell; sisters: Lila (Ken) Wells; Doris Winsell (Pat Macha), Wilma Davis, and Phyllis (John) Connelly; and a niece: Megan Connelly.
