Wanda Jane Phippen, 59, of Independence, Iowa, died at Peoples Nursing Care Center in Independence on Wednesday, June 5, 1991.

She was born March 6, 1932, in Independence, the daughter of Roy R. and Olive Eva Flack Esch. In 1950, she married William P. Loveland in Waterloo, Iowa. They later divorced. In 1955, she married Richard Phippen and they also later divorced.

Phippen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence. She was the activities director at People's Nursing Care Center.

Phippen is survived by two sons, Michael H. Loveland of Cincinnati,Ohio, and Mark A. Phippen of Oelwein, Iowa. She is also survived by three grandchildren, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harold and Roy Jr.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Pastor Dean J. Kelly officiating. Shirley Erdman was the organist. Casket bearers were John Dodge, Jerry Lee Dodge, John Gaffney, Loren Brace, Robert Hanna, and Steve Esch. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
