Barbara Jo McInteer, 88, of Chandler, Arizona, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Avenir Memory Care in Chandler. No public services are planned at this time. Her cremated remains will be buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date.

White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on May 19, 1932, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Harold Humphrey and Pearl Victoria (Tripp) Pearce. She graduated from high school in Independence with the class of 1950. On November 18, 1950, she and John Michael "Mike" McInteer were married in St. John's Chapel in Independence. They later divorced.

Mrs. McInteer worked in the office of Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo, Iowa, for many years. Later, she was the secretary for the Independence Area Chamber of Commerce. She retired in 1997. In 1999, Mrs. McInteer moved to Arizona to be near family.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chandler.

Mrs. McInteer is survived by one daughter, Karen (Kim) Delaney of Mesa, Arizona; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ivadele "Gert" Cutshall, and one niece.
