Perry R. Sheldon, 88, of Lamont, Iowa and formerly of Sumner, Iowa, died on Sunday morning, March 21, 2021 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois.

Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 26, 2021 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont, Iowa with Pastor Lisa Schroeder officiating.

Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Interment: Campton Cemetery, Lamont.

Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home of Lamont, Iowa is assisting the family.

Perry Roger Sheldon was born June 20, 1932 in Madison Township at the family home in Lamont, Iowa, the son of Roger Harold Sheldon and Haley Mariah (McGhee) Sheldon. Perry received his education in Lamont. Perry was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Messerer who passed away in 1977. Of this marriage a son was born: Daniel Sheldon, Sr. Perry later married Carol Jeanne Las who preceded him in death in 2018. Perry lived and worked for the City of Sumner for more than 25 years. Upon retirement he moved to Rochester, MN where he lived until Carol’s passing. He then relocated and has lived with his step-daughter, Christine McKinney in Naperville, Illinois.

Even though Perry left Lamont, he maintained his roots to Lamont and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Perry enjoyed writing letters and was a pen pal to many. He started his Christmas cards in October, some years sending out more than 200 cards and letters. He was an active John Deere enthusiast and built up an extensive collection of toy model tractors, as well as owning one Case and two vintage John Deere tractors. He also enjoyed going to auctions with his son, Daniel.

Perry is survived by Son: Daniel Sheldon, Sr. of Stewartville, Minnesota; Step-Daughter: Christine Marie (Stathus) McKinney of Naperville, Illinois; Step-Sons: Mark Peter Stathus of Fredericksburg, Tx and Daniel Paul Stathus of Rochester, Minnesota. Grandchildren: Daniel William Sheldon, Jr. of Hazelton, Iowa, Jordan Perry Sheldon of Portland, Oregon, Holly Jean McKinney and Nicholas Ryan McKinney of Naperville, IL. Great Grandchildren: Willow Sheldon and Skyler Sheldon of Hazelton, Iowa, Brady Christian Hauser and Hailey Rae Hauser of Naperville, Illinois; Sisters: Mary Ann Seigrist, (deceased); Nellie Rose Bush (deceased); Mae McLaughlin of Des Moines, Iowa and Betty Collins of Independence, Iowa.
