John H. “Jack” Franck, 80, of Quasqueton, IA, died on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Jack was born on May 14, 1940 on his family’s farm in rural Quasqueton, IA, the son of Leon L. and Ardis (Kress) Franck. He was a 1958 graduate of Quasqueton High School. On September 26, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Lee Johnston, at the First Christian Church in Davenport, IA. Together, they made their home on the family farm outside of Quasqueton. Jack loved farming, he tended to his land for over fifty-four years. He worked with Harrison Price Carpentry, and he later the Kress Black Smith Shop for ten years. For twenty-five years, Jack was a member of the Quasqueton Fire Department and a Trustee of the Liberty Township.
In 1996, Jack and Janet started developing three subdivision just north of Quasqueton, where they later built a home.
In 2014, they purchased a home in Camp Verde, AZ, where they spent their winters. He loved taking rides up mountain trails in his ATV.
To his community and friends, he was known as a “Jack of all Trades”. In his retirement, he loved to invent things, and spent many hours welding. He built grills and BBQ racks for his friends and family.
He also enjoyed cooking. He would often host parties for family and friends where he would spend hours barbecuing whole sides of pork.
Jack is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Janet Franck, Quasqueton, IA, his sons; Tracy (Kelly) Franck, Winthrop, IA and Terry ( Carla) Franck, Winthrop, IA, six grandchildren, Austen (Kayla) Franck, Independence, IA, Lindsey (Barry) Fuessley, Walker, IA, Evan (Lindsey Cole) Quasqueton, IA, Tyler (Danielle) Franck, Independence, IA, Colleen Franck, Independence, IA, Trevor (Kinzlee) Franck, Tiffin, IA, fourteen great grandchildren, a sister, Patsy Burrell, Center Point, IA, three brothers, Richard “Dick” (Alice) Franck, Quasqueton, IA, Gary (Cathy) Franck, Center Point, IA, and Dennis (Patricia) Franck, Independence, IA, to sisters-in-law, Yvonna Gericke, Quasqueton, IA, and JoAnn Johnston, Independence, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ardis Franck, a great grandson, Tanner Franck, a sister-in-law Betty Cannon, and four brothers-in-law, Spencer Burrell, Kenneth Gericke, John Cannon and George Johnston.
Face masks are requested to be worn by those attending the services.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at the Reiff Family Center, Inc – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA, with Rev. Kevin Jennings presiding. Burial will be held at the Quasqueton Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4 PM until 8 PM on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 In Independence.
