Leo E. Ploesl, 85, of Independence, IA, died on Saturday January 9, 2021 at MercyOne, Oelwein Medical Center in Oelwein, IA.
Leo was born on October 3, 1935 in Walker, IA the son of Martin J. and Mildred (Lammers) Ploesl. He attended the Prairie #3 Country School in Delaware County. For several years he worked on the family farm before joining the United States Army in 1958. While in the service he graduated in the top of his class from the Motor Vehicle Mechanic Class in Germany. He returned to Iowa after his time in the service, in 1960 to continue farming. For ten years he worked at the Walker Sale Barn in Walker, IA helping care for hundreds of livestock that were sold throughout the years.
Leo is survived by his sister, Mary Ploesl, Sumner, IA, and many cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Martin and Mildred Ploesl.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday January 19, 2021 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, with Rev. David Beckman presiding. Inurnment will be held at the St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Tuesday. The Reiff Family Center is in charge of arrangements.
