John Russell Rundle, 75, of Oelwein died Sunday April 17, 2011 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

John was born December 26, 1935 on the family farm in Oran, IA to parents Russell and Viola (Wolf) Rundle. He graduated from Oran High School in 1953. On November 10, 1957 John was united in marriage to Dorothy Otto at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Klinger, IA.

John drove a charter bus for Scenic Hawkeye Stages, then worked many years for Swiss Valley, retiring in 1988. John was also the owner/operator of the Yankee Scoreboard in Oelwein from 1983 until the time of his death. John was a member of the American Legion in Oelwein and Zion Lutheran Church.

John loved all sports, and was very good at them. He travelled extensively to many games, and especially loved the New York Yankees. He was the pool captain of many award winning teams. John was a great supporter of amateur softball, sponsoring several teams including Oelwein Tool and Die, Westgate Men’s Softball, and the Yankee Scoreboard Men’s slow-pitch softball teams. He sponsored many men’s and women’s bowling, pool, and volleyball teams and has earned quite a large collection of trophies. John also enjoyed golf and card games with friends, and was a country and western music fan. John adored his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew, and continue to love him.

John is survived by his loving wife of over 53 years, Dorothy; his son John (Mary) Rundle Jr. of Sumner; his grandson John Rundle III of Denver, CO, his granddaughter Leslie Rundle of Denver, CO; his great granddaughter Nevaeh; his step- grandchildren: Aaron and Audrey Wagner, and Darci Vanlaningham; and his sisters: Janet Rundle and Judy Rundle.

In death, John has rejoined his parents; his brother Robert Rundle; his sisters: Joyce Peck and Jean Otto.

VISITATION: 5-8 PM Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home

SERVICE: 1 PM Thursday, April 21 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home.

John will be laid to rest in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
