Edward “Ed” Auer, Sr. 92, of Winthrop, Iowa died on Sunday evening, October 18, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 23, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Winthrop with Rev. Paul C. McManus officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. on Friday at the Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home, Winthrop.

Interment: St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Winthrop, Iowa.

A Memorial Fund has been established for Cedar Valley Hospice.

Edward Francis Auer, Sr. was born January 16, 1928 in Allamakee County, Iowa, the son of Edward John & Josephine Gertrude (Heck) Auer. He received his education at St. Patrick Catholic School in Monona. Ed served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. Ed was united in marriage to Peggy Jean Cornwell on July 20, 1968 in Preston, Minnesota. They made their home in the Independence and Winthrop area. Ed worked at Iowa Ham in Independence for 45 years and owned and operated the Happy Auer Bar in Winthrop for 13 years, retiring in 2011.

Ed was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Winthrop. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers.

Ed is survived by his Wife of 52 years: Peg Auer of Winthrop;

4 Children: Jim (Deb) Auer of Independence,

Scott Auer of Independence,

Ed (Beth) Auer, Jr. of Quasqueton and

Josie (Chris) Wessner of Quasqueton;

10 Grandchildren: Trent Auer of Mitchellville, Brent Auer of Quasqueton,

Eddie Auer III of Ames, Joe Auer of DeSoto, Kansas,

Eric Auer of Independence, Tasha Auer of Independence,

Tierney White of St. Paul, MN, Brianna White of Winthrop,

Chloe Wessner of Quasqueton & Chase Wessner of Quasqueton;

1 Great Granddaughter: Lexi Kristine Auer;

Brother: Ralph Auer of Ossian;

Sister: Angela Hogan of Dubuque;

Nieces & Nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brother: George Auer, 6 sisters: Leona Voss, Korona Ohlert,

Mary Catherine Stein, Gertrude Rose, Eileen Johanningmeier & Dorothy Auer; granddaughter: Josephine Auer and grandson: Christopher Wessner.
