Gilbert J. “Gil” McBride, 55 years old, of Hazleton, Iowa, died on Monday, September 7, 2020, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa.

He was born on September 14, 1964, in Madison, Wisconsin. He graduated from high school and finished the course of study at the Divine Word Seminary at Epworth, Iowa. At the time of his death, he was a non-denominational minister. Mr. McBride enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, socializing with family and friends, riding motorcycles, fishing, and gardening.

Mr. McBride is survived by 1 son, Matthew Smith of Hazleton, 1 daughter, Jessi Smith of Denver, Iowa, his fiancée, Renee Bockholt of Hazleton, 2 step sons, Taylor Simmons and Alan Bockholt, both of Hazleton, 4 grandchildren, Kaylynne Smith, Rosa Smith, Ronan Smith, and Avah Simmons, and his best friend, Brad (Christina) Staton of Oelwein, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his spouse.

Funeral Services will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein. Friends may call after 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
