ANOTHER VICTIM TO WHISKEY-Timothy Maher, an Irishman living about six miles north of Independence, is added to the already long list of victims who have filled a drunkard’s grave.
Yesterday (Thanksgiving) morning, as Miss Maggie Harrigan, a lady teaching school, about four miles north of the city, was going to open her school, she espied the body of a man lying by the roadside, and approaching it, she discovered that it was frozen stiff, and recognized the man as Timothy Maher. Maher was seen in town by several of our citizens on Wednesday evening. He said that he was going home that night, although advised not to do so, on account of his intoxication. The next seen of him was as above described. he leaves a wife and several children to mourn his death and to curse the cause of it. To them Thanksgiving day proved the unhappiest day of the year.-Independence Bulletin.
