Lois M. Coulter, 90, formerly of Hazleton, Iowa died on Thursday evening, February 25, 2016 at Windmill Manor in Iowa City after a lingering illness.

Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein with Rev. John Kerr officiating.
Visitation: The family will greet friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service.
Inurnment: Hazleton (Fontana) Cemetery, Hazleton, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established for the Diabetes Association and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Lois Merle Bloodgood was born on September 14, 1925 in the parlor bedroom on the family farm in Andes, New York, the daughter of Clyde Merle & Vera Mae (Wight) Bloodgood. She graduated from Andes Central High School in the Class of 1944, valedictorian of her class and was an accomplished vocalist, pianist and saxophonist.

Lois continued her education at the Spencer Business School in Kingston, New York and then the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York where she earned a degree in fashion design in 1949.

Lois was united in marriage to Vernard Thomas “Vern” Coulter on May 13, 1950 in Andes, New York. Three children were born to this union: Bradley, Marlene and Dana. Lois was a woman of faith, deeply involved in her church wherever she resided.

The couple lived at Walton & Scotia, New York, Storm Lake & Alta, Iowa and Chetopa, Kansas. While living in Storm Lake, Lois was a CNA at Methodist Manor Care Center. They moved to Hazleton, Iowa in September of 1999. Lois later moved to Iowa City to be near her family.

Left to cherish her memory are he Daughter: Marlene(Michael)Neville of Iowa City;
Son: Dana(Tracy)Coulter of Rushford, Minnesota;
Daughter-in-law: Linda Coulter of LeMars;
Sister-in-law: Dorothy Bloodgood of Kingston, New York; Brother-in-law: Vard Houghtaling of Georgia;
7 Grandchildren: Larissa Kommes, Chantel Stuart,
Amber Neville, Abigail Neville, Casey Neville,
Shane Coulter and Cody Coulter;
9 Great Grandchildren and several
Nieces & Nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Vern on March 19, 2000, son: Bradley, brother: George Bloodgood, sister & brother-in-law: Betty(Richard)Cole and a sister-in-law: Gail Houghtaling.
