Kuhny Van Heuvelen, 95, of rural Hazleton, Iowa died on Friday evening, April 19, 2019 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with Pastor Scott Jans officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and for one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, Iowa.

Kuhny Van Heuvelen was born on September 13, 1923 in Nashua, Iowa, the son of Koert & Elsie (VanDyke) Van Heuvelen. He attended Castor County School in rural Ionia and graduated from Ionia High School in Ionia in 1939. He continued his education at Gates Business College in Waterloo where he graduated in 1953.

Kuhny farmed in the Charles City area until 1953. He married Lola Rogers in Cedar Falls. They were blessed with two children, Roger Dean and Phyllis Ann. The couple later divorced. Kuhny married Imogene Kay(Fink)Loeb on February 20, 1980 in Galena, Illinois. After graduating from college, Kuhny operated an accounting and tax service and worked as an implement store manager for Oliver M. Greenley, both in Independence. He later managed an implement store for J.I. Case Company in Oelwein, retiring in 1980. Kuhny then went back to his love of farming and farmed his farm south of Hazleton and north of Fairbank until he retired again in 2005.

Kuhny had served his community as president of the Independence Jaycees and had also been on the Independence City Council. He was past president of the Buffalo Creek Golf and Country Club in Winthrop and was a past board of directors’ member and past president of the Buchanan Mutual Insurance Association in Independence.

Left to honor his memory are his Wife: Imogene “Jeanie” Van Heuvelen of Hazleton;

Son: Roger Van Heuvelen of Crookston, Minnesota;

Nephew: Ronald(Stacey)Reints of Cedar Falls and their children: Keegan,Hanna & Reece;

Sister-In-Law: Shirley Burco of Oelwein and her children: Jeff (Sharon) Burco, Kim (Peggy) Burco and their children, Matthew and Amy,

Dawn(Jim)Givant and their children: Alexander, Nathan and Gabriel;

Brother-In-Law & Sister-In-Law: James & Charlene Tatro of Oelwein and their children:

Robert(Michelle)Tatro and his son, Ryan Shaffer,

Jayme (Steve) Hay and their son, Clint;

Brother-In-Law: Wayne Fink of New Virginia and his children:

Scott(Doris)Fink and their children: Benjamin and Kelli;

Brian(Denise)Fink and their children: Brandon & Tyler and

Nancy(Kent)Darsee and their children: Jenna, Ella and Cohen.

Kuhny was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Phyllis Ann, brother: Fred Van Heuvelen, sister: Elsie (Van Heuvelen) Reints, sister-in-law: Laurnetta(Hobert)Van Heuvelen, brothers-in-law: Harm Reints and Darwin Burco and nephew: Brett Burco, 2 half-sisters and a half-brother: Jennie Smith, Mettina Dixon and Hiram Van Heuvelen
