Gerald M. “Jerry” Ohrt, 81, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Thursday afternoon, September 20, 2018 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein with Rev. Joshua Schunk officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
Interment: Old Barclay Cemetery, rural Jesup, Iowa with military honors by the Ross Reid American Legion Post #9 Honor Guard of Oelwein.

Gerald Maurice Ohrt was born July 6, 1937, at Iowa City, Iowa the son of Theodore and Freda (Lane) Ohrt. He received his GED and then attended Cerritos Community College in California for two years. Jerry married Gladys Ann Kisner on September 10, 1960 at Cedar Falls, Iowa. He was a veteran of the Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Jerry was a truck driver for many years. He was baptized Lutheran and was a member of the Ross Reid American Legion Post #9 of Oelwein.

Jerry is survived by his 3 children: Dan (Julie) Ohrt of Beaumont, California, Deb (Elmer) Gann of Oelwein and Rob (Lillian) Ohrt of Hemet, California; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; 2 sisters: Maxine (Harvey) Heindiniche of Dear, Arkansas and Judy (Paul) Vega of Anaheim, California; and a brother: John B. Davis (Mary) Ohrt of Mt. Vernon, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife on June 12, 1994; 2 sisters: Madeline Black and Ada Skolninick; 3 brothers: Ronald Ohrt, Alvin Ohrt and Merle Ohrt; and 2 nephews: Del Ohrt and Ronald Ohrt.
