Janet L. Jessen, 81, of Oelwein, Iowa, died on Saturday evening, August 4, 2018 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

The family will have a private visitation and funeral with Rev. Allen Biere officiating.

Interment: Stanley Cemetery, Stanley, Iowa.

The public is invited to join the family to share memories and in a meal at noon on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Stanley Fire Department Community Room in Stanley, Iowa.

A Memorial Fund has been established for Unity Point Hospice.

Janet Lee Duckett was born on October 11, 1936 on a farm east of Stanley, Iowa, the daughter of Frank & Opal (Finch) Duckett. She graduated from Stanley High School in the class of 1954. She continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls where she received her B.A. plus 30 hours and at Des Moines Area Community College where she received an A.A. in health care administration. Janet was united in marriage to John Edward Jessen on June 9, 1956 at the Stanley Union Church in Stanley, Iowa. Janet was a homemaker and worked in her early years in the Waterloo Schools teaching first grade, as supervisor of the Bremer County CAP programs in Waverly and as administrator of the Denver Sunset Home in Denver. In her later years, Janet taught at Our Savior Lutheran Church Pre-School in McAllen, Texas and worked for Exceptional Persons Respite Program in Waterloo. She enjoyed volunteering at Fontana Park in Hazleton and Mercy Hospital and Wings Park Elementary second grade both in Oelwein. She also enjoyed music, gardening, playing bridge and spending time with her grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her 3 Sons: John Jessen of Duluth, Minnesota,

Randy (Sheila) Jessen of Denver &

Dean (Jennifer) Jessen of Wadena;

6 Grandchildren;

8 Great Grandchildren and

2 Brothers: Ron (Judy) Duckett of Clermont &

Ross (Cindy) Duckett of Canton, Minnesota.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her husband: John on April 2, 2009.
