Douglas Vincent Koch, 69, of Cedar Rapids, and formerly of Lamont, Iowa, entered into his eternal rest on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his home in Cedar Rapids.

Douglas Vincent Koch was born November 29, 1948 at Moline, Illinois, the son of Vincent Frances Koch and Lois Kvamme Koch. The family moved to Lamont where Doug attended and graduated from Starmont High School with the class of 1967.

Douglas was united in marriage to Gale Dawn Tilley on October 16, 1977 at the Backbone State Park near Lamont, Iowa. They lived various places including Lamont until moving to their present home in Cedar Rapids. Doug worked as a mechanic for heavy machinery at various places including Iowa Manufacturing/Terex in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Doug loved working with his hands. He was an accomplished gardener with one of the most beautiful gardens in the neighborhood, he was an extraordinary woodworker, and a selfless kind person to all his family and friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Gale of Cedar Rapids; three sons: James Tilley of Cedar Rapids, Keoni (Courtny) Koch of Cedar Rapids, and Erik Koch of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren: Brittny, Austin, Hannah, Fatimah, Emmalee, Ronin, and Peyton; five great grandchildren; six brothers and sisters: Lois (Vern) Doehrmann of Williamsburg; Carol Popham of Lamont; Dave (Glenda) Koch of Lamont; Susie (Kirk) Schuchmann of Strawberry Point; Jaynie (Rick) Karas of Dawsan, NE; and Mary (Brian) Grimm of Lamont; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, July 23, 2018 at St. Albert’s Cemetery east of Lamont. A celebration of life ceremony will follow at 11 AM on Monday at the Lamont American Legion Hall. Another celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Hawkeye Fire Building in Cedar Rapids at a time to yet be determined.

The Fawcett Funeral Homes and Cremation services is assisting the family with arrangements.
