Robert L. “Bob” Gibson, 73, of Hazleton, Iowa died on Saturday afternoon, December 30, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hazleton, with Pastor Dianna Bass officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Military Service: 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid

Robert Leroy Gibson was born on December 7, 1944 in West Union, Iowa, the son of Robert Theodore & Margret Jane (Cline) Gibson. He was raised in Hazleton and graduated from Hazleton High School in the class of 1961. Bob was united in marriage to Dianne Marie Rohrick on July 18, 1966 in Lancaster, Missouri. Bob served in the U.S. Navy for 6 ˝ years during the Vietnam War. Bob lived in Hazleton and worked at John Deere Co. in Waterloo from February 1967 until he retired in December 1998. In his retirement, he drove truck for Tom Miller Motors and operated Gibson’s Hometown Café in Hazleton.

Bob was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hazleton. He enjoyed being a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, welding, making metal art, whittling and local and NASCAR auto racing. His pride and joy was his 1950 Ford two door hardtop automobile that he restored with his son, Joe. He received his Veteran Honor Quilt on December 8, 2017.

Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years: Dianne Gibson of Hazleton;

3 Children: Robert Christopher (Kym) Gibson of Dunkerton,

Melissa Nicole Potts of Hazleton &

Joseph Coty Gibson of Hazleton;

Former Son-In-Law: Ian Potts of Oelwein;

7 Grandchildren: Robby Gibson, Baylee Ann Gibson, Mac (Sarah) Potts, Mackenna Potts, Thomas Potts, Isabella Potts & Layne Gibson;

2 Sisters: Becky White of Oelwein &

Mary (Robert) Taylor of Hazleton;

2 Brothers: William Gibson of Hazleton &

Howard (Margaret) Gibson of North Buena Vista;

Sister-In-Law: Dorothy Rohrick of Oelwein and

Many Nieces, Nephews & Cousins.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Richard “Rick” Gibson, nephew: Chad Gibson, 2 great nephews: Riley MacInnis and baby Eric and his in-laws: Ray Rohrick, Robert & Donna Rohrick, Ronnie & Connie Rohrick and Neal & Patricia Hedrick.
