Bertha M. Gahring, 88 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Lexington Estate in Independence.

She was born on April 7, 1929, in Mt. Auburn, Iowa, the daughter of Burdette and Floy Mae (Scheffler) Wiesert. She graduated from high school in Dysart, Iowa, with the Class of 1947. On August 28, 1947, she and Billy Russel Gahring were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They later divorced. Mr. Gahring preceded her in death on June 19, 2002. Mrs. Gahring was a caregiver who enjoyed playing with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sewing.

Mrs. Gahring is survived by 2 daughters, Candis (Morris) Ronnebaum of Independence and Joy (Gerald) Pint of Jesup, Iowa, and 2 sons, Randy Gahring of Cole Camp, Missouri, and Kim Gahring of Carrollton, Texas. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and 2 sisters, Blanche Homire of Hiawatha, Iowa, and Elise (Ed) Wittig of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons, Steve Gahring and Kendall Gahring, 1 granddaughter, Hannah Pint, and 1 brother-in-law, Lloyd Homire.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Sheri Andersen officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, June 5th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Memorial may be directed to the family.
