Willard “Bill” Matthew Hewlett, 60 years old, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at his home at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
He was born on May 1, 1957, in Anchorage, Alaska, the son of Charles Barnes and Esther AnnaLee (Bland) Hewlett. He graduated from high school in Independence with the class of 1975. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army. He had lived in Marshalltown for 20 years. The last 11 years were at the Veterans Home. Mr. Hewlett was an enthusiastic fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs.
Mr. Hewlett is survived by his mother, Ann Hewlett of Independence, 4 sisters, Michal “Mickey” (Derrell) Scott, Jr., and Rachel (Randy) Salow, both of Independence, Sarah (Andy) Bixler of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mary (Jeff) Lenz of Iowa City, Iowa, and 2 brothers, Mark (Tracy) Hewlett of Iowa City, and Tim (Jennie) Hewlett of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and 1 brother, Charles, and 1 sister, Elizabeth, both in infancy.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Lance Fricke officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Creek Cemetery in rural Quasqueton, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation an hour before services on Monday.
