Don Gudenkauf, 57, of Winthrop, entered into his eternal rest on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.
Donald John Gudenkauf was born June 16, 1960, at Independence, Iowa, the son of Vernon J. and Joan McGraw Gudenkauf. Don grew up on the family farm, east of Monti, Iowa, and attended East Buchanan Community Schools in Winthrop, graduating with the High School Class of 1978.
On May 17, 1980, Don was united in marriage to Sharla Kay Main at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti. To this union were born two children: Nickolas and Kylie. They made their home in Winthrop where Don owned and operated the Gudenkauf Towing and Repair Service Station for over 20 years. In addition, he farmed the family farm, which was his favorite job. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who loved his family above all else. Deer hunting and socializing with family and friends were some of his favorite things.
Survivors include his wife, Sharla, of Winthrop; his son, Nickolas (Amber) Gudenkauf of Masonville, IA; his daughter, Kylie (Jeff Lowe) Gudenkauf of Slater, IA; his two granddaughters: Isabell Lowe and Aubry Gudenkauf; his parents, Vernon and Joan Gudenkauf; seven siblings: Deb (Jerry) Brincks of Lidderdale, IA; Bob (Jan) Gudenkauf of Littleton, IA; Doris (Paul) Jacobs of Marengo, IA; Linda (Joe Drobnick) Gudenkauf of Littleton, CO; Jim (Kim) Gudenkauf of Coggon, IA; Betty Beauregard of Waterloo, IA; and Tammy Gudenkauf of North Liberty, IA; and other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. in the Church of Christ United at Winthrop with Pastor Dean Schlitter officiating. Music will be provided by Anita Bowden, Don Bowden, and Tom Griffin. Casketbearers will be: Kyle Taylor, D.J. Taylor, Bryce Griswold, Glenn Buggs, Don Taylor, and Craig Naber. Honorary bearers will be: Ryan Coleman, Mitch Thompson, Collin Whitney and Blake Goodenbour. Interment will be in Lower Spring Grove Cemetery near Troy Mills, IA. A Scripture Service, led by Sharon Bainbridge, will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at 2:30 P.M. at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop. Visitation will follow from 3 P.M. until 8 P.M. and after 9 A.M. Friday, July 28, 2017, at the Church of Christ United. The family suggests that casual clothing can be worn.
The Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Winthrop is assisting the family with arrangements.
