Larry Lee Harris of Lamont, Iowa was a devoted and loving, Husband, Father, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, brother, neighbor and friend. He died peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on August 9th, 2016. He was born May 19th, 1943 and was the son of Earl and Wanda (Brown) Harris. He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids in 1961. He worked at FMC/ Link Belt for 22 years. He and his wife, Diane owned and operated Harris Tap in Lamont for 17 years. He worked for Hayward Baker in Broomfield, Colorado for 13 years before retiring in 2009. He also served as Lamont Fire Chief and was active in the Lamont Community and Saddle Clubs.

In his early years Larry enjoyed horse shows, trail riding, and hunting. He also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, shooting pool, and happy hour with family and friends. Larry worked hard and devoted his life to his wife, family, and close friends. He was a very generous, honest, candid, kind, humorous, and unselfish person who always put others before him. Larry enjoyed having his house, pool, and deck filled with storytelling, laughter, and socializing with a cold Miller Light. Larry has been a positive influence and mentor to everyone who crossed his path.

He is survived by his wife, Diane (Wessels), of 49 years; his children Terri (David) Beavers, Converse, TX; Cheryl (Beaner) Harris, Lamont, IA; DeAnna Harris-Miller, Independence, IA; Joe Harris (Rachel), Dacono, CO and Justin (Jackie) Harris, Marion, IA. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; Jason, Jamie, Kade, Brent, Kaleb, Kara, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Keegan, Gabrial, Xander, Emma, Ivan, Mckenna, Cody and Kylie and Bompo to 6 great grandchildren; Evan, Dawson, Bella, Raelynn, Merrick and Ella. Larry is also survived by 4 brothers and sisters; Darrell (Jan) Harris, Don (Betty) Harris, Loretta (Tony) Svoboda and Charlotte (Dave) Powell. Larry is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and special sister-in-law, Deb Kremer.

Larry often shared words of wisdom and “Larry-isms” to include, “It doesn’t matter what you did…. what you are going to do about it, is what matters most” and countless others not suitable for print. He will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. ,Saturday, August 13, 2016 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Strawberry Point with Father Paul Peters officiating. Casketbearers will be: Justin Harris, Joe Harris, Jason Burns, Kade Harris, Brent Harris, and Matt Beaver. Honorary bearers will be Kaleb Miller, Ezekial Miller, Isaiah Miller, Gabrial Miller, Keegan Harris, Xander Harris, Joe Fannon, Fred Bolinger, Dan Moyle, and Mary Ann Dozark. Interment will take place at St. Albert’s Cemetery east of Lamont. Visitation will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point on Friday, Aug. 12 from 4 PM until 7 PM and Saturday from 9:30 AM until services.
