Leon Meyer, 71, of Independence, Iowa died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the University Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa

Leon was born on May 22, 1944 in Lincoln, Nebraska the son of Willis H. and Helen R. (Martin) Meyer. He moved with his family to a farm near La Porte City, Iowa. He graduated from the Genesco High School in Genesco, Iowa. In 1965 he became employed with the John Deere Company, working for thirty two years prior to his retirement in 1995. On October 31, 2007 he married Sandra K. Trainor in Morrilton, AR. The couple made their home in Independence, Iowa.

He enjoyed rebuilding tractors, gardening, cooking, and dogs. He loved spending time with his family especially the grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; Sandra K. Trainor-Meyer, Independence, IA, two children; Brenda Knaub, Omaha, NE, John (Shelli) Meyer, Independence, IA, two step daughters; Samanda (Ron) Even, Hazleton, IA, Lois (Roy) Riggleman, Royal Oak, MI, twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters; Sharron Breitzman, Glad Stone, MI, Sherri Klein, La Porte City, IA, and two brothers; Elmer Meyer, Dysart, IA, James Meyer, La Porte City, IA. He is also survived by his first wife; Karen Omari, Omaha, NE.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, and a great grandson; Aaron Postel.

Funeral services will be held at 5 PM Tuesday, July 28th, 2015 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA, with Rev. John Sheda officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 PM till services on Tuesday.
