James C. Scott, 80, of Independence, Iowa died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the ABCM Rehabilitation Center’s East Campus in Independence, Iowa.

Jim was born on November 19, 1935 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Lloyd H. And Cecilia J, (Zajicek) Scott. He attended the Central City Schools. He was employed at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids for 19 years prior to becoming a clerk with the Mental Health Institute in Independence prior to his retirement in 1999. He was married to Vera Mae Drexler on September 14, 1974 in Manchester, Iowa.

He enjoyed going to flea markets, going on bus tours, all of the senior citizen activities and delivering meals on wheels. He was active in the AARP serving as President and Vice President of the local chapter and served on the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Team.

Jim is survived by three children; John Scott, Williamsburg, WV, Joseph Scott, Charlestown, WV, and Theresa Scott, Midland, TX., six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a sister; Anna Scott, Clinton, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Lloyd and Cecilia Scott, his wife Vera Scott in 1995 and a son Dale Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA with Rev. John Sheda officiating.

Burial will be in the Murdoch-Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, IA. Friends may call from 9 AM till services Wednesday at the funeral home.
