Sharon A. Thompson, 70 of Independence, Iowa died Thursday morning, December 27, 2012, at her home in Independence, Iowa.

Sharon was born on February 2, 1942, in Independence, Iowa the daughter of Everett H. and Marian M. (Kress) Nelson. She was a 1960 graduate of the Quasqueton High School in Quasqueton, Iowa and attended Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa for a short time. On August 23, 1960, she was married to Marvin D. Thompson in Independence, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Independence area, and Sharon was employed with Micro Switch Company, the Independence Feed Company, and the Independence Community Schools prior to becoming a secretary with Dr. John Flage, MD for twenty years prior to her retirement.

She is survived by her husband Marvin, three children; Kerry (Cherrie) Thompson, Ofallan, Illinois, Kim (Janelle) Thompson, West Des Moines, Iowa, and Melanie Thompson, Tampa, Florida, nine grandchildren, her mother; Marian M. Nelson, Independence, Iowa, four sisters; Judy Roberts, and Margaret Ownby of Independence, Iowa, Patricia Nelson, Hawaii, Connie Harris, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and three brothers; Doug Nelson, Tampa, Florida, Dean Nelson, Hawaii, and Brian Nelson, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her father Everett Nelson, and a sister; Jane Boies.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday in the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Sue Ann Raymond officiating, with burial in the Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
