John V. White, 68, of Independence, Iowa died Monday, May 28, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

John was born on October 10, 1943, in Independence, Iowa the son of John A. and Kathryn N. (Mazur) White. He graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in Independence. He became employed with the Independence Newspapers, then started his own trucking business prior to driving for Jensen Transportation. He was married to Diane L. Umhoefer in 1965 the couple later divorced.

He is survived by two sons; Steve White, Winthrop, IA., and Curtis White, Independence, IA., three granddaughters; Allesia, Tierney, and Brianna, three sisters; Judy (Terry) Thiessen, Winthrop, IA. , Janet (Len) Billerbeck, Cedar Rapids, IA., Jackie (Jim) Engelbrecht, Mt. Vernon, IA., and four brothers; Jim White, Stanwood, IA., Jerry White, West Branch, IA., Joe White, Shellrock, IA., and Jeff (Luci) White, Independence, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister; Patricia White.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA., with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating.

Burial will be held at a later date in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Monti, IA.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Thursday.
