Pauline R. Smith, 79, of Hazleton, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, January 9, 2015, at her home.

Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Floral Hills Funeral Home, rural Oelwein with Rev. Connie Markle officiating.

Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday and for one hour before the service on Saturday at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Interment: Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Brandon, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established in her name.

Pauline Ruth Kaiser was born April 12, 1935 in Washington Township, Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Cato L. & Auzetta Mabel (Rogge) Kaiser. She graduated from the Brandon Community High School and then continued her education at a business school in Chicago, Illinois. Pauline was united in marriage to Clarence Eugene Smith on March 8, 1955 in Savannah, Illinois. To this union ten children were born. The family made their home in Independence before moving to Hazleton in 1968. Pauline was a lifelong Buchanan County resident. She previously owned and operated an antique business in Hazleton for many years. Pauline was a member of the Hazleton Commercial Club for 30 years where she had previously served as president for many years. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary having memberships in the Sheehan Tidball Post #30 in Independence and then the Hazleton Auxiliary. Pauline was a member of the Buchanan County Tourism, Friends of Fontana Park and the United Methodist Church.

Pauline is survived by her 8 Children: James (Carol) Smith of Reno, Nevada, Stacey Smith of Aurora, Diane (Gerald) Gates of Aurora, David Smith of Hazleton, Peggy Eilers of Hazleton, Kelly Smith of Hazleton, Robert (Rhonda) Smith of Ogdensburg, Wisconsin and Dennis (Jennifer) Smith of Hazleton; 27 Grandchildren; 37 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Clarence on October 17, 1997; 2 daughters, Sandra K. Cue Shurtz and Angela A. Ricchio and 2 sisters: Kathryn Shaffer and Velda Mae Scott Garrelts.
