Janet K. Bennett, 73, of Independence, Iowa died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa with her family at her side.

Janet was born on July 25, 1941 in Fremont, Iowa the daughter of George G. and Margaret J. (Alman) Bennett. Shortly following her birth the family moved to the Walker, Iowa area where she graduated from the Walker High School in 1959. Janet was employed as a nurse aid with Malone Creek Estates, the Peoples Extended Care Center and with the Mental Health Institute in Independence prior to her retirement.

Janet enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports, she was a member of the Independence Bowling Association and the Eagles Club. She loved to play cards and making ceramics.

She is survived by three daughters; Lori (Mike) Shannon, and Darla Price both of Independence, Iowa, and Marti (Koch) Martz, San Jose, CA, a step son Scott (Nadine) McNeal, Shellsburg, IA, six grandchildren; Chris Shannon, Nick Shannon, Steph Price, Jenna Price, Emma Martz, and Chandler Martz, a brother; Patrick Bennett, Davenport, IA, and a sister; Jean Marie Shane, Junction City, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister George Ann King.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church, Independence, Iowa with Rev. Sue Ann Raymond officiating. Burial will be held in the Cremation Garden at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, Iowa.
