Berniece Naomi Moore was born September 2, 1928 in Mackey (Boone County Iowa), to Otto and Opal (Richards) Peter and was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She passed away at home on March 17, 2014 with her children by her side at 85 years old.
She attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated in 1946 from Boone High School, Boone, IA. Berniece lived in Boone, Zearing, McCallsburg, Story City and Red Oak before moving to Independence in 1960. She taught and played bridge for many years and became a Life Master. She worked as a legal secretary for Judge Klotzbach, John Cherney and Frank Craig. Berniece was Director of Volunteer Services at MHI Independence 24 years before retiring in 1994. In 1992 she received the Iowa Govenor's Excellence in Volunteer Administration Award. She also enjoyed painting, genealogy, reading, and being with her children.
Berniece married Claude J. Ruckman in Boone, IA and they were later divorced. She then married Richard W. Moore in Omaha, NE and they were later divorced. Virgil H. Becker of Dubuque, IA became her companion for 25 years until his death in 2008.
She is survived by one son and two daughters, Thomas (Monica) Moore of Johnston, IA, Susan Kruckenberg of Ogden, IA and Julieanne Moore , Independence, IA . Six grandchildren; Eric, Jesse, Stephene, Kari, Matthew and Michelle and ten great grandchildren.Two sisters and one brother, Daloris (Don) Wilchek, Boone, IA, Betty (Duane) Paulson, and Wilmer (Gladys) Story City, IA.
She was preceded in death by one son Steven Moore, her parents, a sister, Shirley Parmentier of Colorado Springs, CO, a brother, Delbert Peter, Boone, IA and a son- in- law Larry Kruckenberg of Ogden, IA
A gathering of friends and family will be held with visitation on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence. Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence on Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to services at the church. Internment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice 801 1st St E, Independence, IA 50644.
