Carol A. Wessels, 77, of Independence, Iowa died Sunday morning, February 5, 2012 at her home in Independence.

Carol was born on July 24, 1934, in Dyersville, Iowa the daughter Louis A. and Clarinda M. (VonLehmden) Christoph. She was a 1953 graduate of the Xavier Catholic High School, Dyersville, IA., and was employed for a short time as a telephone operator. On September 4, 1954 she was married to David A. Wessels. The couple resided in Dyersville until moving to Independence in 1963.

Carol was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a clerical Volunteer with the Waterloo Symphony Orchestra in Waterloo, IA.

She is survived by her husband Dave Wessels, Independence, IA. six children; Dawn (Doug Davidson) Wessels, Evansdale, IA., Julie (Kevin Lange) Wessels, Waterloo, IA., Bruce (Cindy) Wessels, Independence, IA., Brian Wessels, Independence, IA., John Wessels, Independence, IA., and James Wessels, Manchester, IA., Eleven Grandchildren, Thirteen Great Grandchildren, two sisters; Joan Sloan, Sun Lake, AZ., Phyllis March, Dyersville, IA., and a brother; Steve Christoph, Waterloo, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother; John Christoph.

Funeral services will be held at 7 P.M. Tuesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA., with Mrs. Sharon Bainbridge officiating. Friends may call from 3 PM to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
