Darlene M. Blount, 62, of Independence, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, January 17, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa.

Darlene was born on July 13, 1949, in Independence, Iowa the daughter of Joseph C. and Mary J. (Kane) Bagby. She was a 1967 graduate of the St. John’s Catholic High School, Independence, Iowa. On October 22, 1971 she was married to Richard W. Blount at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence. She and her husband owned and operated the Blount Excavating Company in Independence for forty years.

She is survived by a daughter; Roni (Rick) Hilby, Manchester, IA., four grandchildren; Joshua, Hailey, Olivia, and Ryan Hilby, four sisters; Mary Ann Kelly, Cedar Rapids, IA., Linda Bagby, Independence, IA., Susan Burington, Cedar Falls, IA., Sandy Boyd, Tennessee, and eight brothers; Joe Bagby, Independence, IA., Francis Bagby, Independence, IA., Jim Bagby, Cedar Falls, IA., Tom Bagby, Dunkerton, IA., Pat Bagby, Walker, IA., Jerry Bagby, Arizona, Gene Bagby, Independence, IA., and Wayne Bagby, Rowley, IA., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick on March 11, 2011, and a brother; Randy Bagby.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA., with Rev. Paul McManus officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date., Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Friday and from 8 to 10A.M. Saturday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA., where a rosary will be recited at 3 P.M. and a parish Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Friday.
