Ronald E. Nicol, 78, of Hazleton, Iowa died on Wednesday afternoon, March 28, 2012 at the Iowa Veteran’s Home at Marshalltown.
Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2012 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein starting with a Public Masonic Service by Hebron Masonic Lodge #374 A.F. & A.M. followed by the Funeral Service with Rev. Charis Combs-Lay officiating. Visitation: 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. on Monday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Ronald Eugene Nicol was born on August 29, 1933 at Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Milton Howard & Bernice I. (Dooley) Nicol. He graduated from Oelwein High School in the Class of 1951. Ron attended the Academy for Law Enforcement in Waterloo and Des Moines. He was a District Clerk for the Iowa Highway Patrol in Oelwein for 8 years. He was then an Enforcement Office for the Iowa State Liquor Commission for 7 Counties in Northeast Iowa for 3 ½ years. Ron then served for 14 years with the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department and retired as a Captain & Chief Deputy in 1985. Ron was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifelong Oelwein and Hazleton area resident. Ron had lived at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown for the past 4 ½ years.
Ron was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, the Oelwein V.F.W., Hebron Masonic Lodge #374 A.F. & A.M. and the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post #9.
Ron is survived by his Brother: Jerry D. Nicol of Mesa, Arizona; 8 Step-Children and Numerous Step Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Gerald in 1938.
