SANKEY, POLARK, TAYLOR, BYRNE, SPIELMAN, BANTZ, FLETCHER, WELLMAN

Mary K. McGlaughlin, eldest daughter of Hiram and Rebecca McGlaughlin, was born in Ohio, on Sept. 14, 1853. She moved with her parents to Buchanan county at the age of seven years, where she lived with her parents on the McGlaughlin homestead.

On Dec. 21, 1871, she was united in marriage with William Sankey. They lived near Littleton until 1884, when they moved to Northwestern, Neb. They returned to Littleton in 1889, and purchased what is now known as the Sankey farm, where they resided until Mr. Sankey passed away on Feb. 18, 1917.

Since then Mrs. Sankey has lived in the homes of her children, and she was always a welcome guest wherever she chose to be. In September, 1933 she suffered a stroke which affected her left arm, and from which she never fully recovered. Since then she has made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Polark, where she has been tenderly cared for.

Her health has been failing steadily the past few; months, But she was able to be up and around, and her death, which occurred Thursday, April 16th, came as a shock to relatives and friends. Mrs. Sankey was 82 years, seven months and two days.

She leaves to mourn her passing, nine children they are: George F. of Glendo, S. Daw.; Charles R. of Lamont,Iowa; Mrs. George Taylor of Rimby, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. T. H. Byrne, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Mae Spielman, Kansas City, Mo.; E. J. Sankey, Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. W. L. Fletcher of Denver, Colo.; Ira W. of Oelwein, Iowa, and Mrs. F. F. Polark of Fairbank, Iowa.

There are eighteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, a sister, Mr,;. M. A. Bantz of Independence, Iowa and four brothers: Oatho McGlaughlin of Puyallup, Wash.; Charles of Jesup, Iowa; J. B. of Littleton, and H. C., north of Littleton.

One sister. Delia Wellman preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sankey united with the Presbyterian church at Littleton Feb. 21, 1889. and lived a beautiful christian life. Her early life was one of sacrifice which richly rewarded her with deep love and devotion from each of her children. She was held in the highest esteem by everyone who knew her in the community, and won the respect of all. She will be sadly missed by all of her friends here.

Funeral services were held Monday morning, April 20 at 10:30 o'clock in the Presbyterian church in Littleton conducted by the pastor. Burial was made in the Littleton cemetery.
