Lois Maye Buck, 92 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, May 2, 2011, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a long illness.
She was born on August 26, 1918, in Cono Township of Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of William Daniel and Gertrude Mae (Butler) Kautz. She graduated from high school in Rowley, Iowa, with the Class of 1936. On August 26, 1940, she and Carl Berton Buck were married at the Kautz family home in rural Rowley, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Mrs. Buck was the bookkeeper for West Side Implement in Independence. She and her husband sold the business and retired in 1973. At that time they relocated to Arizona. In 2002, they returned to Independence. Mrs. Buck was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence.
Mrs. Buck is survived by her daughter, Karla (Robert) Sprague of Cascade, Iowa, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Ralph Kautz and Kenneth Kautz.
Funeral Services were at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Independence, Iowa, with Dr. David A. Larson officiating. Music was provided by Mary Kay Miller, organist. Casket Bearers were David Becker, Julie West, Robert Sprague, Mark Sprague, Richard Sprague, and Andrew Sprague. Burial was in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa.
