Maxine Straw, 79, of Independence, died Friday, Jan. 21, at West Village Care Center in Independence of a long illness.

She was born Sept. 15, 1931, in Tripoli, daughter of Willie and Alma Kalso Schwer. She married Richard Louis Straw Nov. 14, 1952, in Independence. He died in 1990.

She attended school in Independence. Mrs. Straw worked at Independence Produce Co., Wapsie Fly Co., and was a housekeeper in Independence. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survived by: three daughters, Regina Reedy of Cedar Falls, and Beverly (Greg) Callaghan and Amanda (Aaron) James, both of Independence; a son, Mark (Dawn) of Center Point; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Les (Belva) Schwer of Cedar Rapids.

Preceded in death by: a sister; and a granddaughter.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence.

Public visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. today at White Funeral Home of Independence.
