Donald L. Hoeger, 73 of Independence, Iowa, died Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Buchanan County Long Term Care, in Independence. Iowa.

Don was born on December 7, 1937, in Luxemburg, Iowa the son of Sylvester J. and Marie E. (Wernke) Hoeger.

He graduated from the St. Boniface Catholic High School, New Vienna, Iowa, and received a B.A. Degree in Philosophy from Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa in 1961, and a JD Degree, from the University of Iowa College of Law, Iowa City in 1965. On September 30, 1967 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Wick in Coos Bay, Oregon. The couple resided in Decorah, Iowa where Don practiced Law with the Isadora Meyer Law Firm. In 1970 Don became an assistant Attorney General serving with the Iowa Department of Transportation, Ames, Iowa until 1972 when the family moved to Independence, Iowa and Don became a partner in the Greif-Klotzbach Law Firm later becoming the Hoeger-McClintock Law Firm practicing until his retirement in 2002.

Don loved his family, he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He loved cooking, discussing politics, and the Iowa Hawkeyes

He was a member of the Iowa Bar Association, the Buchanan County Bar Association, the Judicial Nominating Committee, the Buchanan County Compensation Committee and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife Kathy Hoeger, Independence, Iowa, three daughters; Ann Hoeger, Chicago, IL., Marie (Chad) Hoeger Bement, Wauwatosa, Wis., Margaret Hoeger (Joseph Davoli), Falls Church, VA., three grandchildren; Annamaria Davoli, Drew and Jack Bement, his mother; Marie E. (Wernke) Hoeger, Dubuque, IA., a sister; Karen Osterhaus, Davenport, IA., and a brother; Stephen (Jean) Hoeger, Dubuque, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating.

Burial will be held in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence, IA.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Friday and from 8 A.M. to 10 A.M. Saturday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where a rosary will be recited at 3 P.M. and a parish vigil service will be held at 7 P.M. Friday.
