Jack Franklin Widner, 79 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, January 3, 2011, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, following a long illness.

He was born on May 31, 1931, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Clarence J. and Eva L. (Mikesell) Widner.

Following high school he finished training in electronics in Van Meter, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 7, 1952, he and the former Juanita LaVonne Baldwin were married in Rock Island, Illinois. Mr. Widner worked at Farmstead Industries and also, was a self employed electronics technician.

Mr. Widner is survived by his wife of 58 years, Juanita, 3 sons, Jack (Marsha) Widner, Jr., of Waverly, Iowa, Dale (Nancy) Widner of Waterloo, Iowa, and Clarence (Sherry) Widner of Hazleton, Iowa, 3 daughters, Elaine (Kenny) Peterson of Hayfield, Minnesota, Cindy Widner of Independence, Iowa, and Lorrie Parker of Cedar Falls, Iowa. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 brother, Donald (Dena) Schroder of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son in infancy, Wesley, 2 grandsons, Benjamin Widner and David Kalkwarf, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers.

No public services were planned at this time.
