Mildred Mae Fear was born May 25, 1922 at Littleport, Iowa the daughter of Rubert and Lytle Steefer Nading.

Her father was injured in a farm accident and died when she was young. Her mother then married Ernie Brockmeyer and they lived near Edgewood where she attended school.

Mildred was united in marriage to Wayne Leslie Fear on November 9, 1944 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union were born four children: Lila, Dennis, Nancy, and Bret. After the war the family farmed near Oelwein and Independence, before moving to a farm near Lamont in the early 1950’s. They farmed for 29 years before moving into Lamont. Mildred was a cook at the Starmont High School for over 23 years. Wayne and Mildred owned and operated the Treasure Chest consignment store in Lamont for ten years. In 1991 they moved to Aurora. Mildred was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church and the Aurora American Legion Auxilliary. Wayne died November 8, 1994.. Mildred moved to Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque four years ago.

Mildred entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque following a short illness. She was 88 years of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her step father Ernie Brockmeyer; her husband Wayne; two great grandchildren Devin Trowbridge Dress and Mason Oberfoell; and two brothers: Tony and Dick Nading.

Survivors include her two daughters: Lila (Lee) Opitz of Aurora and Nancy (Jerry) Trowbridge of Rickardsville; two sons: Dennis (Kay) Fear of Monticello and Bret Fear of Dubuque; nine grandchildren: Gerald (Tina) Trowbridge, Victoria (Ron) Jones, Adam (Cheri) Oberfoell, Sarah (Len) Dress, Joshua (Abbey) Trowbridge, Zachary (Christine) Trowbridge, Jacob (Emily Leibold) Trowbridge, Matthew (Elizabeth Macrander) Opitz, and Tonia (Brock) Barnhart; eleven great grandchildren: Alex Dress, Dominic Trowbridge, Allyson Dress, B’Elanna Trowbridge, Skye Trowbridge, Ethan Trowbridge, Brandon Trowbridge, Aspen Oberfoell, Lucas Trowbridge, Jordan Gullison, and Benjamin Barnhart; two brothers: Frank Brockmeyer of Oelwein and Wilbur Nading of Elgin.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Aurora United Methodist Church with Pastor John Brockschink officiating. Music will be provided by Karen Kremer and Abbey Trowbridge. Casketbearers will be grandchildren.

Interment will be in Floral Hills Cemetery near Hazleton.

Friends may call from 4 PM until 8 PM on Wednesday, December 29 at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Lamont at 215 Pearl St and on Thursday December 30, 2010 at the Aurora United Methodist Church from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 AM.
