John A. White Sr., 88,died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004,in West Village Care Center,Independence, following a short illness. Services: 10:30
a.m. Monday, St. John's Catholic Church,Independence, by the Rev. Aloysius Vorwald.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory,Independence, where a rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.

John was ,born April 15,1915, near Dyersville, the
son of Victor W. and Emma M. Miller White. He was
united in marriage to Kathryn N. Mazur on Aug. 19, 1941,at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence.

The couple farmed for 77 years prior to their retirement. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters,the Knights of Columbus, past
president of the Farm Bureau,the Jesup Creamery Board, a former Buchanan County Supervisor
and a member of the Buchanan County Board of Review.

He is survived by his wife,Kaye of Independence; five sons, John White Jr. and Jeff (Luci) White, both of Independence,Jim White of Center Point, Jerry White of South Beloit, 111., and Joe White of Cedar Falls; three daughters,Judy (Terry) Thiessen of Winthrop,Janet (Len) Billerbeck of
Cedar Rapids and Jackie (Jim)Engelbrecht of Mount Vernon;19 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren;and three brothers,Vince White of Pomona,Calif., Victor White of Oregon,111., and Joe White of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia White, in infancy; two brothers, the Rev. Norman White and Jerome White; and two sisters, Irma White and Mary Schweitzer.
