Jesup- Norbert Francis Bahl, 88 years old of Jesup, IA, died Friday, November 26, 2010, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA.

He was born July 21, 1922, to Frank and Margaret Ehr Bahl.

He attended Jesup Consolidated School and graduated with the class of 1940. On July 23, 1945, he was united in marriage to Henrietta (Hank) Louise Roedel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo, IA. She preceded him in death on May 9, 1995. Following his educational years, Norb entered the automotive and petroleum business. He was President of the Frost Oil Company, which later became Consolidated Energy. In addition Norb served as President of the Frost Transport Company and the Lamont Oil Company, and also served as Vice President of the LaPorte City Propane Company and the LaPorte City Motor Supply Company.

Norb was a member of St. Athanasius Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Jesup City Council and was past President of the Jesup Lions Club. He was President of the Jesup Development Corporation, past President of the Iowa Petroleum Marketers Association and had served on the Board of Directors of the National Petroleum Marketers Association. He was a charter member of the Jesup Golf and Country Club and a member of the Board of Directors of Farmers State Bank, Jesup. He was named to the Honorary Board of Directors of Camp Courageous and received many awards for his efforts on behalf of the camp.

Mr. Bahl is survived by two sons, Stephen Bahl of Independence, IA, Martin (Rhonda) Bahl of Baltimore, MD; one daughter, Frances (Ted) King of Davenport, IA, four grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian Overington) King of Chapel Hill, NC, Elizabeth King of Davenport, IA, Michael King of Washington, D.C., and Andrew Bahl of Baltimore, MD.

In addition to his wife he is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Irvin Thayer, one sister, Evelyn Whitson, and one brother, Harold Bahl.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. – Monday, November 29, 2010, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. Kenneth C. Stecher, Msgr. Carl L. Schmitt and Msgr. Ralph P. Simington as concelebrants.

Burial will be at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Jesup, IA.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.

Visitation will continue for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous of Iowa, Monticello, IA, or another worthy charity.
